Reflections from Ben

As I lay here awake
Under the Haitian stars
With a group of good friends
Who have come so far
To do a deed for the greater good
For Haitians in need, our brotherhood

The orphans at HATS
Were born with so little
And we have so much
Yet they make us feel so humble

We've given to them
Only two short weeks
What they have given to us
Makes our hearts feel so weak

As we make our plans
To leave Haiti again
We must prepare ourselves
To see such suffering and pain

We are the lucky ones
And we will survive
Many thousands of others
Have lost their own lives
In a tragedy of such scale
It's hard to conceive
Such death and destruction
One can barely believe

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Karen,
all the orphans and staff
And as ambassadors we must go
To speak on their behalf
We must raise attention
To the Haitian plight
And do the best we can
To set things right.

  8. Hi Gerry, Heidi, Tim, Katie, Aidan and Erin.

Mom wanted me to post a message for her. She says, " We love you. Dad and I are praying for you. Give the kids a hug for us. Psalm 91: 1-6, 11 says, Those who go to God most High for safety will be protected by the Almighty. I wil say to the Lord,'You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God and i trust you.' God will save you from hidden traps and from deadly diseases. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you can hide. His truth will be your shield and protection. You will not fear any danger by night or an arrow during the day. You will not be afraid of diseases that come in the dark or sickness that strikes at noon...He has put his angels in charge of you to watch over you wherever you go."

Be safe. I know the Lord is protecting you.

Love Mom and Dad/Grammie and Grampie Rhyno

P.S. Hi Gerry, I can't imagine how busy you are and the demands. We are praying. If you had a moment to send Mom a message to my email I would relay it to her. They only receive info. second hand and a short message might put her mind at ease. Take care. Love you all. Jim

  11. To all at Deschappelles orphanage and school: Sorry the damage is a bit more extensive than thought at first. I'm sure the extra money will come in. Ben's poem expressed well what many would find inexpressible.
More power to all the team! Coverage of the tragedy is pretty well continuous here and people are deeply concerned. They will respond!
Blessings and prayers are flowing, John & Olive Fyfe

We have been following the disaster and are relieved you and your group, as well as those at the orphanage, are all safe. The Haitians are facing hardships far worse than we will ever know.

  24. He will take you o'er the mountain
Through the wind, the rain, the fire
When you're down in the valley low
His love will lift you higher
He will take you through water
He will take you through the flood
Just remember when the tempter comes
    you're cover by His blood!

  29. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers - thanks for all you are doing on our behalf. We are so fortunate here in Canada - and are truly unable to imagine or undestand the horrific thing that has happened in Haiti. What you have lived these past days will remain with you for the rest of your lives - we, in Canada cannot perceive what others in our world struggle with each day. Ben, your poem says it all. Blessings as you wrap up your work for this time and may you have safe travel home to your loved ones! Marilyn Moore, Saint John, NB
